[Abstract]:
Before you choose replacement windows, you might want to consider replacing the glass. This action is a lot more affordable and just as efficient, if you were to replace the entire window.
Using tempered glass in windows increases the strength of the pane, improves the security of the overall structure and is a great window replacement option.
While there are multiple types of window glass, there are two popular types offered by Glass Doctor:
Annealed Glass—This type of glass is commonly used throughout homes and is probably what makes up most of your windows.
Tempered Glass—Stronger than annealed glass, tempered glass is best known for its safety glass features. If it were to break, it would shatter into dull cubes instead of jagged shards.
Should I Replace My Windows with Tempered Glass?
Tempered glass is very strong and if it broke, it would be safer for your home and family since the pieces wouldn’t be as sharp as regular glass.
If you choose to replace your window glass with tempered glass, know that tempering does not change:
Its compression strength (the ability of the glass to resist crushing forces)
The rate at which the glass conducts and transmits heat
Stiffness of the glass
Know that tempered glass doesn’t offer any additional climate control properties, so its primary value in replacement windows is safety and strength.
Replacing the Window vs. the Window Panes
If your windows are damaged, you may not need to replace the entire structure. Give Glass Doctor a call to see if you can simply replace the glass. We can help you determine whether you need to replace the glass in one or both of the panes, and you’ll get the same end result for less money.
Additionally, if you have condensation between the panes of your insulated glass windows, you could have a broken seal which can cause your windows to weaken. If this is the case, our experts can replace the broken seal using a simple procedure that doesn’t require you to buy a new window.
Check out some other reasons why you should replace your windows.
